GameTrailers.com for Boxee 1.0 Now Available
It’s been a long time coming. After a long time of neglect (and errors), I’m proud to announce the 1.0 release of GameTrailers.com for Boxee. New design. New categories. New code.
Actually, it’s version 1.02 by the time I post this… shh…

You may notice that the new home screen looks ripped off from, er… I mean, inspired by the Boxee home screen. The reason I went this route is to keep with my philosophy of designing apps: Keep with what people know. If someone knows how to navigate the original app/operating system, then they’ll have no time picking up my app.
Just looking at the main menu, you can see that each category is now sectioned off into their own menus. The newest media is no longer behind a menu and is shown upfront. Just to the right are featured channels, platforms, and events, making it easy to see what’s new. Over on the right, the 10 latest reviews are shown, again for quick access.
Heading into one of the main media categories will present a simple list of available media along with their descriptions. One of the biggest changes you’ll see is that the app displays images (something not available in the previous app).

Content submenus (such as Channels and Platforms) are more specific to their content types. Channels now display in a panel view while Platforms and Events show as a easy to navigate list. Each submenu displays the latest/featured content at the top for quick access.

Known Issues
Athough this is the Version 1.0 release, there are still some known issues with the app.- The GameTrailers.com RSS feed has been having issues that’s preventing some categories from display results properly (such Events, ScrewAttack content). This is out of my control. I hope they have it fixed in the upcoming weeks (especially with E3 around the corner).
- Search has not been implemented. See above.
- Some channels/platforms are missing artwork. I am ever so slowly getting this created as I’m hand-making them. The official artwork on GameTrailers’ web site is really tiny, so I have to come up with creative ways of making the necessary artwork.
- “Age Gated” content (videos that require inputting of date of birth) cannot be viewed and have been excluded from the video lists.
- HD content cannot be viewed yet. I have the coding in the backend feed generator, but am still learning how to have Boxee give you the option of HD vs. SD when selecting a video to play.
- Videos do not automatically launch in Full Screen mode on the Boxee Box. I don’t own a Boxee Box, therefore I am unable to test the application on it. There appears to be some JavaScript that needs to be written to get it to work properly on there, so I’ll play around with that on a later version, but will have no idea if it works or not on the Box.
I know some people have had some access issues with earlier versions of my app, and I apologize for that. Let it be known I’ve completely revamped my production methods which should prevent any of these kind of errors from happening in the future. (Famous last words…)
How Do I Get It?
The app is now available on my custom repository at apps.InternalServer.net. If you’ve installed GameTrailers.com for Boxee in the past, it should auto-update on the next launch.
If you happen to run into any problems with the app, please feel free to contact me here on the forum or on my Projects account via email (apps AT internalserver DOT net) or on Twitter (@InternalServer). (Unless there’s a better way to contact me that I’m unaware of…)
I hope you enjoy the new version of the app. I sure hope to use what I learned in other new apps. (Wait… did I actually learn anything?)
